About the Apple MacBook Pro
The MacBook Pro is a high-end laptop style computer designed and manufactured by Apple. The current MacBook Pro was released in 2008 and is made distinctive thanks to
its one piece aluminium 'unibody' construction.
Models
The current generation of MacBook Pro's are available in 13", 15" and 17" versions featuring 1280 x 800, 1440 x 900 or 1920 x 1200 resolution displays with LED
backlighting and glass covered screens.
Processing Power
All current MacBooks feature PC based processors and graphics chips. The processors are either dual core Core2Duo units or the newer i5 and i7 processors provided by Intel. The processors vary in speed depending
on the specific model. The graphics chips are all provided by nVidia and are based on the GeForce 9400 or 9600 GT series of cards and feature either 256MB or 512MB of graphics
dedicated RAM depending on model.
Storage
All MacBook Pro models employ 2.5 inch SATA interfaced hard drives for their storage requirements ranging from 160GB in the 13" MacBook Pro to 500GB in the 15" unit.
All units feature a slot loading CD/DVD rewriter based on the SATA interface. The use of this interface allows the drive to be replaced with a Solid State based hard
drive for additional storage space and improved performance.
Memory
All MacBook Pro's use either 2GB or 4GB (depending on model) of PC3-8500 DDR3 SO-DIMM SDRAM memory running at 1066MHz.
Battery life
All MacBook Pro models now feature a sealed non-user removable battery which, due to it not using the traditional round cells (which waste space), allow for a remarkable seven
hours of running time (eight hours for the 17" version) on one charge. The batteries are expected to last for around 1,000 charge cycles before requiring replacement.
Other Features
MacBook Pro's now feature a Mini DisplayPort for connectivity to external display devices. These display connectors work in a very similar way to that of a conventional
HDMI connection. Other connectivity options include a FireWire 800 port, SD card slot and several USB2 connections. A Kensington lock slot is present for security purposes.
